Club of the Year
The regional or rural winner that receives the highest score will be awarded the title Club of the Year and will demonstrate qualities that serve as a role model for all Queensland community clubs.
Those qualities will include:
- Value and variety of food and beverage
- Presentation and range of facilities
- Quality of service and standards
- Special features
- Participation in community service
- The club’s strategic plan and future goals
- The club’s financial status, and
- Where appropriate, commitment to the Responsible Gaming Code of Practice

Service to Industry
Service = the act of helping or doing work for another or for a community.
For an individual who makes a positive service to their community by means of what they simply do each day, recognition often goes un-awarded and most times is unexpected. This very special ‘service to industry’ award pays tribute to an individual who has made these outstanding contributions to the community club industry over many years. This is a peer-recognised achievement.

1. Best Community Service by a Licensed Club
Recognising a club that displays outstanding dedication to working with the community, this award includes activities like providing donations, resources and use of club facilities. It also takes into account the club’s support for community groups including sports, social, welfare, youth, charities, schools, and the disadvantaged, and it acknowledges both financial and in kind support.
In this category there may be two (2) winners based on size – small and large – with the definition of a large club being any club with 40 or more gaming machines. The judges may also use their discretion in relation to what determines whether a club is small or large based on employee or membership numbers.

2. Best Licensed RSL and/or Services Club
This award recognises an RSL and/or services club for the standard of the facilities it provides for members as well as its outstanding service to returned servicemen and women and the general community.
In this category there may be two (2) winners based on size – small and large – with the definition of a large club being any club with 80 or more gaming machines. The judges may also use their discretion in relation to what determines whether a club is small or large based on employee or membership numbers.

3. Best Bowls Club Venue
A club that sets the benchmark in the provision of superior bowling and social facilities for the enjoyment of members and guests and for the promotion of the game of bowls to its community will be rewarded when it takes home this award.
In this category there may be two (2) winners based on size – small and large – with the definition of a large club being any club with 40 or more gaming machines. The judges may also use their discretion in relation to what determines whether a club is small or large based on employee or membership numbers.

4. Best Golf Club, Venue & Facilities
A golf club that provides excellent facilities for its members, promotes the game of golf, and maintains high standards within its social club facilities will be honoured for its efforts when it receives this award.

5. Best Football Club
Encouragement and support of any code of football, including support of junior and senior footballers as well as the standard of sporting and social facilities provided will determine which Queensland Football Club will add this accolade to its belt.

6. Best Surf Life Saving Supporters Club
This award recognises a surf life saving supporters club that provides financial and other support to surf life saving and the standard of facilities provided to its members is part of the judging criteria.

7. Best General Sports Club
A sports club that offers sport to its members and has a consistently high standard of sporting and social facilities will be the recipient of this award.

8. Best Social Club
A club that provides an excellent standard of service, quality facilities for members and guests to socialise with their family and friends within, and that provides outstanding support to its local community will take home this award.

11. Best Club Cafe/Coffee Shop
A club that provides excellent beverages, with a particular focus on tea and coffee, as well as value for money and superior service to customers in quality surrounds will be recognised for its efforts by taking home this award.

12. Best Gaming Venue
A club that provides an enjoyable gaming experience for members and guests in an environment that respects members’ privacy, provides adequate information to players about the games on offer, while embracing the Queensland Responsible Gambling Code of Practice will be the proud recipient of this award. Other factors taken into consideration when determining this award include the ambience of the gaming area, customer service, staff training and special features.

13. Best Club Redevelopment (under $1 million)
A club that has been redeveloped or refurbished in the past 12 months at a cost of less than $1 million will be the recipient of this award. Clubs entering this award must have commenced operating in the new format prior to Monday 26 November 2012 and will be assessed on the quality and innovation in the redevelopment, as well as the impact of the redevelopment on staff efficiency.

14. Best Club Redevelopment (over $1 million)
A club that has been redeveloped or refurbished in the past 12 months at a cost of more than $1 million will be the recipient of this award. Clubs entering this award must have commenced operating in the new format prior to Monday 26 November 2012 and will be assessed on the quality and innovation in the redevelopment, as well as the impact of the redevelopment on staff efficiency.

15. Best Entertainment Venue
A club that provides a range of quality entertainment options for members and guests in appropriately designed environments will have the honour of this accolade.

16. Best HR Practices in a Club
Excellence and innovation in the areas of achievements in HR, recruiting practices, improved productivity initiatives, opportunities for advancement, reward programs, measures to assist staff retention and the club’s performance appraisal system will determine the winner of this award.

17. Best Club Innovation
Best practice in innovation in any or all areas of operating the club will be the deciding factor as to which club will take home this award. The modern club is a diverse business with many elements contributing to its success. The progressive club manager is a forward thinker who is constantly looking for opportunities to run the club more efficiently for the betterment of its member, guests and the community.

18. Best Club Diversification
A club that has successfully established business operations and revenue streams beyond those traditionally associated with a club will be the recipient of this award. For the purposes of this award, revenue streams traditionally associated with a club are defined as membership fees, gaming revenues and standard food and beverage revenues.

19. Best Keno Operation
This category will be judged on the general facilities and member amenities, efficient and friendly staff and the presentation of the club, together with volume of turnover in Keno and percentage increase in Keno turnover during the past calendar year.

20. Best Keno Coordinator
Excellence in service and support, as well as the contribution that a club’s Keno Coordinator has made to the game, will determine which Queensland community club industry Keno Coordinator will take this award home.

21. Best TattsBet Wagering Operation in a Club
The winner of this award will receive the highest scores in the following areas:
- ambience in the TAB
- venue presentation
- integration with the overall club
- general decor
- staff attire, customer service and knowledge of wagering
- signage of the TAB, and
- marketing

22. Special Achievement Award – Responsible Gambling
The winner of this award will have displayed excellence in the areas of:
- compliance with Responsible Gambling Code and Policy
- community liaison
- staff training, and
- the implementation of responsible gambling initiatives

23. Special Achievement Award – Responsible Service of Alcohol
Taking home this award will be a club that serves alcohol to members and guests in a responsible manner. Judging criteria will include evidence that staff have been trained in RSA, provision of security and CCTV, the provision of a courtesy bus service and availability of meals and non-alcoholic beverages including free water.

26. Best Club North Queensland
North Queensland is defined as the area south of Cardwell to Proserpine and west to the Northern Territory border. The towns of Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Cloncurry and Mt Isa are included. The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations.

27. Best Club Central Queensland
Central Queensland is defined as the area from south of Proserpine to the Capricorn Highway and west to the Northern Territory border including the towns of Blackwater, Emerald, Clermont, Barcaldine, Longreach, Winton and Gladstone in the east. The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations.

34. Young Manager Encouragement Award
A club manager under the age of 30 years as at 30 April 2012, will be recognised for service to industry, their club and local community when receiving this award. Consideration will be given to all activities they perform in the role of manager and will include the initiative they have shown within the club and in the areas of community involvement, qualifications, training undertaken and outstanding achievements.

35. Club Director of the Year
An honorary club director who has provided valuable service to the club over a number of years and who may have broader community involvement will go home with this award. Judging criteria includes participation in director training, outstanding service to the club and contributing to the viability of the club.

36. Club Secretary/Manager of the Year
A club manager who is responsible for running a notably successful club will be the recipient of this award. The winner will have attained qualifications and/or experience in the industry over a number of years.

37. Club Chef of the Year (NEW)
This award is designed to recognise the skills of chefs and catering staff working within registered and licensed clubs in Queensland through their culinary abilities, creativity and innovation. The award is open to club chefs, including those clubs with private catering facilities.
